Overview

This half-day Lean Construction training will focus on work planning strategies that help contractors improve flow, production, and coordination in the field. Using the Batch-Pull-Balance Takt simulation and practical construction examples, participants will examine how work is planned, balanced, and executed across project teams. The session will introduce key concepts of flow efficiency, explain why focusing only on resource efficiency can reduce overall productivity, and provide an overview of production laws that can be used to design work for better flow. Participants will leave with a stronger understanding of how Lean planning practices can improve day-to-day project execution and reduce waste.

Colin Milberg, PhDPrincipal, ASKM and Associates

Colin Milberg, PhD is a Principal with ASKM and Associates and has worked with public and private organizations on large-scale infrastructure projects, helping project teams implement Lean Construction and Lean Enterprise practices. His work includes Pull Planning, Superintendent Standard Work, Lean Construction facilitation, design management, integrated project delivery, Building Information Modeling, 3-D laser scanning, and tolerance management in civil systems. Colin earned his PhD from U.C. Berkeley, where he worked with founders of the Lean Construction Institute, and he is an approved instructor for the AGC Lean Construction Education Program. He brings more than 20 years of construction management experience across infrastructure projects ranging from $2 million to $1 billion.
